The future of journalism explored by the Lunar Society
The future of journalism and the very nature of truth was on the agenda at the Lunar Society’s 'Truth in the Age of Algorithms' event, held at Kitchen Garden Café in Kings Heath earlier this month.
It was a fascinating and thought-provoking evening exploring some of the biggest questions facing society today: how technology is transforming the way we consume news, the rise of misinformation, and how the changing media landscape is shaping both journalism and truth itself.
Honorary Secretary of the Lunar Society, David Searle, was joined by an excellent panel of experienced journalists and media experts: Adrian Goldberg, Liz Hannam, Afroze Zaidi, Fionnuala Bourke and Samuel McIlhagga, who discussed everything from AI generated news, deepfakes and the rise of influencers to press regulation, fact checking and freedom of speech.
David said: “The need to think critically about the news we’re consuming and the importance of seeking a plurality of views when forming opinions has never been more important. We enjoyed a fascinating and thought-provoking evening exploring some of the biggest questions facing society today as technology continues to transform the way we consume news.
“A huge thank you to the panellists, audience members, Kitchen Garden Café and Birmingham Press Club for helping make the evening a huge success.”
At a time when information is more abundant than ever, conversations like these have never been more important.
