Lunar trustee discusses financial wellbeing at business festival

At this year’s West Midlands Business Festival, Lunar Society Trustee, Michelle Lynch FTLS, introduced her B.A.L.A.N.C.E Framework, a seven-step, values-led approach to financial literacy, wellbeing and long-term empowerment.

Michelle’s session, aimed at business owners, educators and community leaders in the Midlands, focused on one core question: how do we create growth that is sustainable, human-centred and genuinely inclusive?

What is the B.A.L.A.N.C.E framework?

Rather than treating money purely as a technical skill, the framework positions financial wellbeing as a foundation for personal stability, productivity and social mobility. It recognises that financial stress is one of the most persistent barriers to wellbeing – affecting learning, mental health, performance at work and long-term life outcomes.

The framework is designed to be delivered across multiple settings such as schools, universities, colleges and workplaces. It also aligns directly with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly around poverty and education.

The importance of collaboration

Michelle said: “Together, these perspectives reinforced a simple but powerful message: growth without limits doesn’t come from one discipline alone. It happens at the intersection of education, wellbeing, technology and values-led leadership. If the session proved anything, it’s that the next wave of impact in the West Midlands, and beyond, will come from collaboration across sectors, not silos.”

This collaboration is the bedrock of the Lunar Society today, as it was for the original Society more than 200 years ago.
