Artificial Intelligence – The Big Disruption: Exploring the impact of AI

Artificial intelligence is already transforming the world around us, raising new opportunities, challenges and questions for individuals, organisations and society.

These themes formed the focus of the Lunar Society’s latest event, Artificial Intelligence – The Big Disruption, held at the excellent facilities of Unity Trust Bank in Brindleyplace, Birmingham.

Bringing together a panel of expert speakers - Karl George, Fiona Joseph, Poonam Rajput and Alex Zarifeh - the evening offered a fast-moving and thought-provoking exploration of how AI is reshaping the way we live and work.

Topics ranged from business decision-making, careers and productivity to creativity, ethics and the broader implications of increasingly intelligent technologies.

What made the event particularly engaging was the opportunity for participants to contribute their own experiences and perspectives. Questions from the audience prompted lively debate about trust, bias, transparency, human judgement and the skills that will be needed in the future.

The discussion also looked beyond the immediate impact of AI to consider longer-term issues, including how technology may influence access to employment, environmental sustainability, education and the development of future talent.

In the spirit of the original Lunar Society, where leading thinkers gathered to discuss the innovations of their age, the event demonstrated the value of bringing together people from different backgrounds to explore the major ideas shaping our future.
