lunar society hosts its local election hustings

Last week the Lunar Society hosted a hustings event at Millennium Point with leading Birmingham councillors to hear their ambitions for the city - ahead of arguably the most important local elections in recent memory,

Hosted by Lunar Society member Charmaine Burton, topics included bin strikes, potholes, bankruptcy and much more.

Thank you to the candidates who took part:

* Cllr Rob Pocock (Labour)
* Cllr Robert Alden (Conservative)
* Cllr Roger Harmer (Liberal Democrats)
* Cllr Julien Pritchard (Green Party)

Host and Lunar Society member Charmaine Burton said: "The discussion was grounded, honest, and focused on the issues people are dealing with every day, from young people, waste management and the ongoing bin strike to homelessness, housing, public services, local businesses and the condition of our roads.

"There was also important conversation around the council’s financial position, including the context of Birmingham City Council no longer being under a Section 114 notice, effectively a formal declaration that a council cannot meet its financial obligations and must restrict spending.

" Spaces like this are essential. They promote accountability, encourage meaningful exchange and help strengthen trust between those in positions of leadership and the communities they serve. A sincere thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions and contributed to such an important conversation."
