lunar society BECOMES A CHARITABLE INCORPORATED ORGANISATION
We are delighted to announce that the Lunar Society is now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
So, what is a CIO?
A charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) is a corporate body with a constitution that is registered with and regulated by the Charity Commission.
A CIO:
· is an incorporated form of charity that is not a company
· only has to register with the Charity Commission and not Companies House
· is only created once it is registered by the Charity Commission
· can enter into contracts in its own right and its trustees will normally have limited or no liability for the debts of the CIO.
The benefits to the society are that it is now a legal body in its own right and it can enter into contracts in its own name.
This is excellent news for the charity and stands us in good stead for the future.
