Christmas Tree Festival

From 5 to 7 December 2025 the Lunar Society joined many other organisations participating in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church, Handsworth.  There were a glittering array of Christmas trees adorning the aisles of the church, shedding beauty and light throughout.

This year we borrowed items relevant to the society from St Paul's church in the Jewellery Quarter which also has links to the Lunar story.

The modern Lunar Society's connection with Handsworth has a visible presence in the church via stone and marble memorials and remembers its founding fathers through the lives of three of its men.  James Watt - remembered for the use of steam to harness power, William Murdoch - for lighting factories and homes with gas lighting and Matthew Boulton, whose manufactory was nearby in Soho making many metal items including minting coins.

As part of the festival schools and Bellfield dance took part as well as sparkling violin playing.  We hope the children enjoyed the chocolate coins provided under our tree.

Our tree has now been shipped off to a deserving family to brighten up their Christmas.

How ever you wrap up your festival time the Lunar Society sends you best wishes and wishes you all a Merry Christmas.
