summer in the garden - the lunar society annual garden party 2025

An evening of inspiration, connection, and Edwardian charm at Winterbourne House & Garden.
Following last year’s sold-out success, The Lunar Society held its much-loved annual Garden Party – the evening was one of relaxed elegance, lively conversation, and thought-provoking ideas, all set within the enchanting grounds of Winterbourne House and Garden.
Attendees enjoyed an afternoon tea–style buffet on the Edwardian terrace — all lovingly prepared by University of Birmingham catering professionals.
Two Women of Winterbourne
The highlight of the evening was a special keynote talk by Henrietta Lockhart, Curator of Museum Collections at Winterbourne House, titled: “Two Women of Winterbourne”.
Clive Stone Dl, FTLS, Chair of the Lunar Society, commented: “A passion for nature and green space underpinned the design of Winterbourne House and Garden and inspired the Nettlefold family to enable others to enjoy better living conditions. Margaret Nettlefold and her daughter Evelyn, both lovers of botany, lived through times of social change and upheaval and grasped every opportunity to make a difference in the world. We are delighted that Henrietta shared a compelling story of women, gardens and quiet revolution.”
After the talk, guests had the rare opportunity to explore the house and gardens at their leisure.
Our thanks to Winterbourne House and Gardens for their hosting and sponsoring this event.
