RENOWNED BIRMINGHAM AUTHOR SPEAKS ON THE HISTORY OF THE SECOND CITY
In January 2025 The Lunar Society hosted a special talk by renowned Birmingham writer Richard Vinen, author of ‘Second City: How Birmingham Forged Modern Britain.’
In this talk, Richard spoke about what he sought to do with his book and how the history of Birmingham has been seen by other writers. He discussed how he might write the history of Birmingham differently if he were to do it again, and how his views had changed since the book was published.
Lunar Society Chair, Clive Stone DL, FTLS, said: “Richard is an exceptional writer, and his book is a fascinating read. Birmingham has a rich and interesting history, and we were delighted to explore this history through an author’s eyes.”
The event also featured guest speakers Peter Borg-Bartolo, former Lunar Society Chair and author of the Society’s ‘Heritage for the Future’ booklet, and Historian & Curator, Chris Rice.
Our thanks to Edgbaston Park Hotel for their sponsoring this event.
