Dr Rashida Sharif

HONORARY TREASURER

Rashida has served as an active member of the Lunar Society Executive Board Committee for over 10 years. She has been in education for over 40 years. During this period, she has held senior positions in schools and local authorities including as Director for Inclusion.

She has been inspecting schools across the age range and settings, including special schools and initial teacher education (ITE) for over 30 years. She was until recently one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) employed by Ofsted.

She is continuing to support schools in challenging circumstances as well as leading on inspection work in the UAE. Outside education she has been a non-executive director with Sandwell Health Authority and Birmingham Children’s Hospital for over 20 years. She continues to work with the voluntary and private sector and is currently one of the directors at a local charity, free@last, as well as working with several Multi Academy Trusts in Birmingham. She is the Vice Chair of Trustees of the Association of Retired and Former HMI, Widows and Widowers in English and Wales. She also works with the school of Sanctuary.

She continues to organise and lead on visits to India to explore its wealth of history, culture, religions, food and much more. She particularly takes groups of people to explore the history of the part that Britain played during the period colonialism. 

As a member of the Lunar Society’s’ Education working group, she continues to work with Multi-Academy Trusts and Universities in holding debating societies to encourage young people to develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of topics through debates. These debates are judged by people from a range of professions culminating in the winning team being awarded a trophy.
