At the Lunar Society AGM last night Waheed Saleem was elected as Chairman and Hon. Alderman Michael Wilkes as vice Chairman.

Waheed Saleem has been working in Birmingham for over a decade in different capacities. He was previously a senior manager in the NHS and currently has a diverse portfolio of Non-Executive posts including Chairing the Right Care Right Here Partnership, a strategic partnership between the NHS and Local Authorities; Chairing Groundwork West Midlands, a leading environmental charity; Non-Executive Director of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust and chairing a Care and Support Board for a national Housing Association.

His vision for the society is to ensure we debate, catalyse and develop solutions to the big issues affecting the region and society. Our strength of acting as a neutral forum will enable us to bring together high profile national personalities to the region to enable us to influence local, national and international policy on significant areas such as science and technology, food security, climate change, poverty and social inclusion, immigration, as well as enabling our members to debate these issues and develop innovative solutions, as our forefathers did in the 18th Century. I hope through my tenure of Chair the Lunar Society will once again be the engine of innovation and radical thought.
