Spring 2012 EVENING TALKS

“Lost in Lace”

Tuesday 24^th January, 5.30pm-7.30pm.

See how the symbolic language, patterns and techniques of lace are represented through radical new approaches by UK and international artists. Featuring large scale, theatrical and visually spectacular work, this exhibition challenges perceptions of what lace can be, involving the visitor in an environment where spaces become fluid and thread creates entirely new boundaries. Led by BMAG Curator, Andy Horn.

We will meet in Gas Hall Reception. There will be a tour of the exhibition for an hour, followed by light refreshments and discussions at Edmunds on Newhall Street.

An Introduction to the Staffordshire Hoard

Tuesday 31^st January, 7pm-9pm.

Deborah de Haes, Chair of the Friends of Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery, will give an insight into how the Hoard was found and saved for the Midlands. Illustrating her talk with images, she will give a basic introduction to the Hoard and explain the role the Friends of BMAG have played in supporting its acquisition and interpretation.

At Edmunds on Newhall Street. The price includes light refreshments.

Gallery 20: Tessa Sidey Bequest

Monday 20^th February 2012, 5.30pm-7.30pm.

This exhibition celebrates Tessa Sidey’s contribution to BMAG. It displays a selection of works from her bequest, and some of the many significant acquisitions Tessa made for BMAG in her role as curator.

Led by BMAG Curator, Victoria Osborne.

We will meet in Gas Hall Reception. There will be a tour of the exhibition for an hour, followed by light refreshments and discussions at Edmunds on Newhall Street.

Each of the talks cost £10 for non-Members, and £7.50 for Members.
