More about: Possible Scenarios for Birmingham

First pioneered by Shell in the late 60s, scenario planning is now used by organisations in the business, charity and public sectors, as well as by governments - perhaps most famously in the Mont Fleur exercises in the late 80s early 90s in South Africa. It is a thinking tool which allows organisations to have very flexible long term plans, necessary in an increasingly unpredictable world.

Chaired by Estelle Rowe who leads the Lunar Youth & Diversity Group, this Society meeting will give us an opportunity to engage with two leading practitioners of scenario planning. After learning more about what it is, where it's been used and to what effect, we will use this systems approach to begin to explore possible futures for Birmingham. The meeting will conclude with a brief discussion on what and how scenario planning could contribute to Birmingham.

Frances O'Brien and Maureen Meadows have experience in the development and use of frameworks, modelling and analytical approaches to supporting organisational strategic development,  in particular scenario planning for assessing future uncertainty and visioning approaches for developing organisational direction. They have experience working with senior management teams in business,  not-for-profit and education sectors.
