Forty years on from Martin Luther King: Are we still dreaming?
Chaired by John Charlton, Councillor Salma Yaqoob led a lively discussion supper on several issues, including how we can contribute to bring forward the city's leadership generation of the future, forty years on from Martin Luther King's dream.
Trevor Phillips spoke of Birmingham becoming a vibrant plural city, a "beacon to the world", in his 2007 Annual Dinner speech. As Liam Byrne and Professor Parkinson, Cllr Yaqoob also views our young, culturally diverse population as a major civic strength.
Cllr Yaqoob was elected for the Sparkbrook ward in Birmingham in the 2006 local elections, representing the Respect Party of which she is Vice Chair. She has appeared on BBV TV's Question Time, and on 25 January was one of the panelists on BBC R4 World Tonight programme.
